흡연에 관한 인시도 조사 - 서울 , 인천 , 연천의 일부 병원 내원환자를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Knowledge and Beliefs Regarding the Consequences of Cigarette Smoking)

Abstract
In order to examine the general knowledge and beliefs regarding the consequences of cigarette smoking, a study was carried out through direct questionnaire to patients visiting the Department of Family Medicine, SNUH., the City of Incheon Hospital and the Yuncheon Health Center Hospital from the 27th of August to 23rd of September in 1989. The total respondants were 388 patients. The results were as follows.
1. Among the total respondants 388, the number of smokers was 236(60.8%), the number of nonsmokers 117(30.2%), and the number of exsmokers 35(9.0%).
2. Regarding the general knowledge of the smoking related facts, the rates of right answering about the preventive effects on hyperemesis gravidarum, the effects on the beauty and body weight, the effects on health and the effects of the sidestream smoke beauty and body weight, the effects on health and the effects of the sidestream smoke were high, respectively 92.0%, 81.7%, 93.6% and 88.9%. But the rates about the prevalence of smoking in Korea and withdrawal symtoms were low, respectively 63.4% and 38.9%.
3. Regarding the knowledge of smoking associated disease, the rates of the right answering was high in lung ca, chronic bronchitis, repectively 92.3% and 78.9%. But they were low in laryngeal ca, esophageal ca, cardiovascular disease, COPD, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer through 10.3% to 35.3%.
4. The analysis of total count of the right answering revealed significant differences among the areas, the levels of education, the actaul conditions of smoking status and the ages.
