To obtain basic data for the establishment of the public emergency medical service facilities, daily records of twelve 119 ambulance units of regional fire station in Seoul metropolitan area were collected and analyzed from Mach, 1982 to June, 1987.
The findings obtained were as follws.
1. The daily average number of emergency call and emergency transport were increased from 17.9, 12.8 cases in 1982 to 57.9, 43.7 cases in 1987, repectively and the ratio of call and transport was 1.4:1 without annual variation.
2. There was a seasonal variation which was winter, spring, autumn and summer in the order of the number of emergency call.
3. Emergency call was concentrated at night time, so overnight duty must be emphasized.
4. Round-trip time and service time of all emergency transport was within 30 minutes in 54.8 percent and 92.6 percent respectively. These times showed no differences by calendar year or size of jurisdiction area.
5. Male and female patients are equal in number and 22.3 percent of all patients was in age 20-29.
Compared with age-specific population size, age group over 50 was greater and age group under 19 was lesser than any other groups.
6. Major problems of the patient are medical and surgical diseases(62.2 percent), accidents(33 percent) and delivery(8 percent).
