| Abstract |
Background
: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS), a serious health problem worldwide today, is already so common a health problem in the western countries that it is a primary care disease, not a tertiary care disease. Especially as there is ano effective treatment established nor has any vaccine been developed, prevention has been the best treatment till now and controlling the transmission routes is the most important preventive method. Therefore, we conducted a survey on how knowlegeable Korean university freshmen are on AIDS, what kind of attitude they have toward AIDS and how interested they are in AIDS. This survey was aimed at providing the basic data for school health education and AIDS prevention programs geared to stop the disease from spreading.
Methods : From December 1992 to February 1993, we questioned 6,521 freshmen of 5 universities in Seoul who were assigned to take physical examinations in Kyung Hee Medical Center and analyzed 6,035 responses, excluding cases with insufficient answers.
Results : Overall the respondents have accurate information on AIDS. 20~40% of the respondents gave incorrect answers to the following questions : "AIDS is a medical condition which your body can't fight off", "All homosexual men and women are likely to contract AIDS", "AIDS can be caused by insect bites such as mosquito bites", "You can get AIDS by using AIDS patient's personal belongings", "You can get AIDS from eating food prepared by a person who has AIDS", "AIDS can be caused by the same virus that causes sexually transmitted diseases","AIDS can be cured if treated early","A new vaccine has recently been developed for the prevention of AIDS", "Who declared December 1st as 'World AIDS Day'".
Conclusion : The respondents have an adequate amount of knowledge on AIDS but some of the information they have is not accurate. As it is shown by the fact that many of the respondents are not aware of the existence of a law for AIDS prevention in Korea, there is not sufficient AIDS information available, We conclude that proper education is needed to provide the accurate information on the disease for the public. In addition, more study on adolescent's sexual activities, knowledge on AIDS, atttude toward it should be done. |

연구배경 : 세계적으로 문제가 되고 있는 후천성면역결핍증(Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome ; 이하 에이즈)은 구미에서는 삼차진료의 대상 질환이 아니고 일차진료의 대상 질환이 될 만큼 문제는 대단히 심각하다. 특히 에이즈는 아직까지 뚜렷한 치료방법이 없을 뿐만 아니라 예방약도 발명되지 못하여 현재로서는 예방이 최선의 치료이며 감염 경로를 차단하는 것이 주요 예방책이다. 이에 저자들은 수개 대학 신입생들에 대한 에이즈에 대한 지식, 태도 및 관심도를 조사하여 학교보건교육과 우리나라 에이즈 예방운동에 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다.
방법 : 1992년 12월부터 1993년 2월까지 경희의료원에서 신입생 신체검사를 위탁받은 서울 시내 5개 대학 신입생 6,521명에게 미리 작성된 설문지를 나누어 주어 자기기입식으로 기재하게 하여 제출하게 한 뒤 이들 중 응답이 불성실한 학생들을 제외한 6,035명을 대상으로 자료를 분석하였다.
결과 : 에이즈에 대한 지식은 대체적으로 정확하게 알고 있었으나 20%~40% 가 잘못된 답변을 한 경우는 "에이즈는 신체가 질병과 싸워서 이길 수 없는 상황이다.", "동성간에 연애를 하는 사람들은 에이즈에 걸리기 쉽다.", "에이즈는 모기와 같은 벌레에 물려 걸릴수도 있다.", "에이즈는 에이즈에 걸린 사람과 물건을 같이 씀으로써도 걸릴 수 있다.", "에이즈는 음식물을 통해서도 걸릴 수 있다.", "에이즈는 일반적인 성병을 일으키는 바이러스와 똑같은 바이러스에 의해서도 걸릴 수 있다.", "에이즈는 조기에 치료하면 완치될 수 있다.", "최근에 에이즈를 확실히 예방할 수 있는 새로운 백신이 개발되었다.", "세계 보건기구는 12월1일을 '세계 에이즈 예방의 날'로 정하고 있다."등의 항목이었고 40~60% 잘못된 응답을 보인 경우는 "에이즈는 에이즈에 걸린 사람과 가벼운 입맞춤을 함으로써 걸릴 수도 있다." 항목이었으며 60% 이상이 잘못된 답변을 한 경우는 "에이즈의 확실한 원인은 아직 알려져 있지 않다.", "우리나라는 에이즈 예방법이 제정되어 있다."의 항목이었다. 95% 이상이 에이즈는 신문이나 방송에서 다루는 것처럼 중대한 문제라고 인식하고 있으나 20% 이상이 아직 우리나라에서는 큰 문제가 되지 않는다고 답변하였다. 또한 85%가 자신은 에이즈에 걸릴 것같은 그런 사람은 아니다라고 대답했으나 67.1%는 에이즈에 감염되었는지 알기위하여 비밀히 간단한 혈액검사를 실시한다면 검사를 받겠다고 대답하였다.
결론 : 비교적 에이즈에 관한 지식은 많이 가지고 있으나 그 중에는 잘못된 지식을 갖고 있고 우리나라에 에이즈 예방법이 제정되어 있는지도 모르는등 에이즈에 관한 홍보가 부족하다고 생각한다. 또한, 에이즈에 관한 태도에서도 이중적인 생각을 많이 가지고 있어 이에 대한 올바른 교육이 시행되어야 할 것이며, 청소년에 대해 에이즈에 대한 지식, 태도, 행동에 관한 조사, 연구가 계속되어야 할것으로 생각한다. |
