Abstract |
To analyse the details of the reasons for visiting the emergency room of the 3rd division medical center, and to analyse the efficiency of the medical examinations conducted on a patient visiting the emergency room, following the application of the medical delivery system, a survey on the functional performance and the possibility of the mal-usage of the emergency room of the 3rd division medical center by the patient, was conducted on the 1,045 patients visiting the Emergency Room of the Asan medical center during the 33-day period from Spet 1st, 1989 to Oct 3rd 1989. The following results were obtained from the analysis of previously prepared questionnaires and medical records. The results of the study were summarized as follows : 1. The most common group of age was 0-9 years of age, and males predominated over females by 1.2 : 1 2. sixty three point three percent of the patients came to the Emergency Room from Song Pa Gu and Kang Dong Gu which are districts nearest to the hospital. 3. Thirteen point four percent of the patients visited the emergency room at 10-12 o'clock and thirteen percent at 20-22 o'clock. On average, a patients stays in the Emergency Room for about 2.7 hours. 4. Seventy point seven percent of the patients arrived at the Emergency Room within 24 hours of the onset of the their chief complaint. 5. The rank of symptom by ICPC classification was as follows : abdominal pain(17.3%), fever(8.7%), laceration(7.2%), headache(6.0%), vomitting(4.4%), diarrhea(3.5%), flank pain(3.3%), dyspnea(3.2%), rash(3.9%), accident & injury(2.9%) 6. The rank of problem by ICPC classification was as follows : accute gastroenteritis(7.3%), laceration(7.2%), URI(5.1%), contusion(3.9%), fracture(3.6%), CVA(3.5%), urinary stone(3.2%), urticaria(2.6%), FGID(2.3%), acutetonsillitis(1.9%) 7. The average number of laboratory tests which were conducted on a patient was 1.6 and the most common laboratory test was simple X-ray(50.7%) 8. The patients were treated as Internal Medicine cases(20.9%), Pediatrics cases(15.6%), Orthopedic Surgery cases(8.4%) 9. The percentage of referral to other departments was 9.9%. Referral to Internal Medicine was highest at 24.4%. 10. Admission rate of the emergency patients was 37.1%. 11. The most common reason for visiting the Emergency Room was related to the nearness of the hospital(34.4%). |
